Victoria and Ed got married today in the village of Pulborough in West Sussex. I’d photographed Victoria before – she was a bridesmaid at her friend’s Sarah and Darren’s Trunkwell House Wedding and also for Harriet and Charlie when they got married in deepest Gloucestershire. It’s always a pleasure to see familiar faces at weddings from previous events and none more so than today. The reception was a beautiful marquee set up in Victoria’s parents garden, just down the hill from St. Mary’s where the wedding ceremony took place. I am always impressed by the amount of work that goes into the preparation for a reception, particularly one set up at home – for example the bunting was all hand made including some beautifully embroidered pieces made by the bride and her friends and displayed behind the top table. All these details are fun to photograph of course and I know the images will spark off memories in the years to come of the preparation for the day as well as the wedding itself.
After photographing something of the preparations at home I headed up the hill to meet Ed and some of the guests at the Chequers Hotel, handily sited opposite the church.
“I can’t wait to get married” Ed said to me as he was getting ready to head to the church. It’s clear that Ed and Victoria had both been looking forward to this day for a long time. The ceremony was great, Paul the vicar really made the service personal and clearly enjoyed conducting the wedding. After the bride and groom shot off the in red MG to the reception, I followed them down the hill for my favourite part of the day – the mingling of the friends and family during the drinks reception. Everyone was really friendly and there was a great mix of all ages. The children particularly enjoyed tearing around the garden. I love how small children, faced with a grassy slope, just *have* to roll down it! Simple pleasures are the best for kids I think.
After some great speeches, all that was left was to photograph the first dance of the bride and groom before the evening party began. Thanks again Victoria and Ed for booking me – I am sure the honeymoon was a great success and all the best for your married life together!
