Sunday morning (early!) found me in Reading photographing Anisha and Laurents’ Hindu wedding at the Reading Hindu Temple at the top of Basingstoke Road near the middle of town. I’m sorry to report the weather wasn’t on our side but fortunately the temple was spacious and bright so it was a pleasure to photograph the wedding. I had met Anisha only a month or so prior to the wedding and was flattered when she asked me to provide the photography for the day. Anisha and Laurie are a lovely couple, friendly and relaxed. My only regret for the day is the motorcycle and sidecar transport for the bride and groom had to be cancelled due to the weather :(
I’ve photographed a few Hindu weddings in my time but it was my first time in the temple in Reading. One nice thing is that the ceremony is usually a lot less formal than a lot of other faiths so it was easier to move around a little and get some interesting angles. The obvious thing when it comes to Hindu wedding photographs of course is the splashes of saturated colours and visually interesting parts of the ceremony. Today’s wedding was a lot smaller than a lot of celebrations I photograph but this contrast was nice and it gave me an opportunity to focus on the interesting parts of the ceremony.
After the wedding at the temple, we headed over to the bride’s father’s home in Winnersh for some family photographs at home. Fortunately the rain had just about subsided by then so it was great to be able to use the garden for some portraits. I am sure Anisha and Laurie will enjoy vastly different weather on honeymoon in Hawaii!
Thanks again A & L and see you soon:)
Here’s a slideshow of the day…
Some detail shots at the temple.
Anisha and Dad, Arun arrive.
Henna takes many hours to apply and Anisha told me she had to sleep with her hands covered in clingfilm :)
The groom arrives in the rain.
Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. D!
