Here’s Thomas, son of Richard & Katherine whose wedding I shot a few years ago in Newbury. Normally in the studio I shoot with flash lighting but I turned off the flash for this shot and just used the tungsten lightbulbs for illumination. It gives the image a soft and grainy quality that I really like.
Quite often with babies and children you get a really direct look that becomes less frequent the older they get. It’s a real connection between the subjects eyes and the camera that is easy to see by comparing shots, but difficult to describe. Black and white helps, sometimes colour can be a distraction. One of my favourite images from the shoot!
